Any time you add a domain as hosted in some account, you usually set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that specific company. On their end, 3 records are set up automatically as soon as the domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the domain name where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that handles the emails for that specific domain address. The website and the e-mail hosting are often considered to be one thing, while they're in reality two different services. Having independent records for them will allow you to have them with different companies if you would like. As an example, some new provider may have exceptional uptime for your website, but you may not want to switch your e-mails from your current host and by employing an A record to point the Internet domain to the former and MX records to have the e-mails with the second, you will get the best of both companies. These records are checked when you wish to open a site or send an email - either way, the company whose name servers are used for the domain name will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you will see the needed website or your email is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting account through our company and you wish to point either your website or your emails to a different provider, it'll take you literally only 2 clicks to do so. Our Hepsia CP provides an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you choose to use a different email provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the standard 2, it will not take more than a few clicks either to add them. You could also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the bigger the priority a particular MX record is going to have. The propagation of any record that you change or create won't take more than several hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that indicates how long a record will remain active after it's changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, included with our semi-dedicated servers, will permit you to see the A and MX records for each of the domains or subdomains in your account and if needed, to change any of them or create new ones. Handling these records is incredibly easy because all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes a few more clicks and if you experience any troubles, you can check out our video tutorials on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by individuals with little or no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to provide you with complete control of all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are moving your emails to a different company and they ask you to create more than 2 different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
